The '''2012 [AAMI Classic](/source/AAMI_Classic)''' took place between 11–14 January 2012, at the [Kooyong Stadium](/source/Kooyong_Stadium) in [Melbourne](/source/Melbourne), [Australia](/source/Australia).

[Lleyton Hewitt](/source/Lleyton_Hewitt) was the defending champion, having defeated [Gaël Monfils](/source/Ga%C3%ABl_Monfils) 7–5, 6–3 in the 2011 final, but he competed in the [Apia International](/source/2012_Apia_International_Sydney) instead. Following [Jo-Wilfried Tsonga](/source/Jo-Wilfried_Tsonga)'s withdrawal, [Sam Querrey](/source/Sam_Querrey) and [Victor Troicki](/source/Victor_Troicki) agreed to play in an exhibition match to help fill the schedule. [Andy Murray](/source/Andy_Murray) and [David Nalbandian](/source/David_Nalbandian) also played a match.

[Bernard Tomic](/source/Bernard_Tomic) won in the final against [Mardy Fish](/source/Mardy_Fish), 6–4, 3–6, 7–5. He became the youngest person (and first teenager) to win the event.
