It was contested by eight [GAA county teams](/source/GAA_county_teams) ranked 29–36 in the [2009 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship](/source/2009_All-Ireland_Senior_Hurling_Championship). Seven county teams and one regional team took part in the competition. The teams were Warwickshire, [Longford](/source/Longford_GAA), [Fermanagh](/source/Fermanagh_GAA), [Leitrim](/source/Leitrim_GAA), [Cavan](/source/Cavan_GAA), [South Down](/source/Down_GAA), [Tyrone](/source/Tyrone_GAA) and [Donegal](/source/Donegal_GAA).
