The **2006 [Bandy World Championship](/source/Bandy_World_Championship)** was held in [Sweden](/source/Sweden) 28 January-5 February. Men's national teams from 12 countries participated in the [2006](/source/2006_in_sports) tournament: [Belarus](/source/Belarus), [Finland](/source/Finland), [Kazakhstan](/source/Kazakhstan), [Norway](/source/Norway), [Russia](/source/Russia), [Sweden](/source/Sweden) (group A) and [Canada](/source/Canada), [Estonia](/source/Estonia), [Hungary](/source/Hungary), [Mongolia](/source/Mongolia), the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands), the [United States](/source/United_States) (group B).[1]

## Bidding

In February 2004, [Hälsingland](/source/H%C3%A4lsingland) expressed its interest for hosting the tournament, with the final game intended to be played inside the [Edsbyn Arena](/source/Edsbyn_Arena) to avoid being affected by weather conditions.[2]

[Dalarna](/source/Dalarna), [Gothenburg](/source/Gothenburg), [Stockholm](/source/Stockholm) and [Västerås](/source/V%C3%A4ster%C3%A5s) also expressed interest in hosting the championship. On 27 November 2004, the [Swedish Bandy Association](/source/Swedish_Bandy_Association) announced that the tournament would be played either in Dalarna or in Stockholm.[3][4] On 14 January 2005, it was announced that Stockholm would host the event.[5]
