The **2005 Wimbledon Championships** was a tennis tournament played on [grass courts](/source/Grass_court) at the [All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club](/source/All_England_Lawn_Tennis_and_Croquet_Club) in [Wimbledon, London](/source/Wimbledon%2C_London) in the United Kingdom.[1][2] It was the 119th edition of the [Wimbledon Championships](/source/Wimbledon_Championships) and were held from 20 June to 3 July 2005. It was the third [Grand Slam](/source/Grand_Slam_(tennis)) tennis event of the year.

[Roger Federer](/source/Roger_Federer) successfully defended the men's singles crown defeating [Andy Roddick](/source/Andy_Roddick) in the final for the second consecutive year. [Maria Sharapova](/source/Maria_Sharapova) was unsuccessful in her 2004 title defence, being defeated in the semifinals by eventual champion [Venus Williams](/source/Venus_Williams). Williams and [Lindsay Davenport](/source/Lindsay_Davenport) played the longest women's final in history.
