The **2000 WTA Tour Championships**, also known by its sponsored name **The Chase Championships** was a women's [tennis](/source/Tennis) tournament played on indoor carpet courts at the [Madison Square Garden](/source/Madison_Square_Garden) in [New York City](/source/New_York_City), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)) in the United States. It was the 30th edition of the [year-end singles championships](/source/WTA_Tour_Championships), the 25th edition of the year-end doubles championships, and was part of the [2000 WTA Tour](/source/2000_WTA_Tour). The tournament was held from November 13 through November 19, 2000. First-seeded [Martina Hingis](/source/Martina_Hingis) won the singles event and the accompanying $500,000 first prize money as well as 390 ranking points. It was the last edition of the WTA Tour Championships to be held in New York.[1][2][3]

Five players, [Venus Williams](/source/Venus_Williams), [Serena Williams](/source/Serena_Williams), [Mary Pierce](/source/Mary_Pierce), [Amélie Mauresmo](/source/Am%C3%A9lie_Mauresmo) and [Anke Huber](/source/Anke_Huber), had qualified for the tournament but withdrew citing various injuries and ailments.[4][5]
