It was the [26th edition](/source/WTA_Tour_Championships#Singles) of the [year-end singles championships](/source/WTA_Tour_Championships), the [22nd edition](/source/WTA_Tour_Championships#Doubles) of the year-end doubles championships, and was part of the [1997 WTA Tour](/source/1997_WTA_Tour). The tournament was held from November 17 through November 23, 1997. Second-seeded [Jana Novotná](/source/Jana_Novotn%C3%A1) won the singles title.[1][2]
