The **1996 Monte Carlo Open** was a men's [tennis](/source/Tennis) tournament played on [outdoor clay courts](/source/Clay_court). It was the 90th edition of the [Monte Carlo Masters](/source/Monte_Carlo_Masters) and was part of the [Mercedes Super 9](/source/ATP_World_Tour_Masters_1000) of the [1996 ATP Tour](/source/1996_ATP_Tour). It took place at the [Monte Carlo Country Club](/source/Monte_Carlo_Country_Club) in [Roquebrune-Cap-Martin](/source/Roquebrune-Cap-Martin) in France from 22 April until 28 April 1996. First-seeded [Thomas Muster](/source/Thomas_Muster) won the singles title, his third at the event after [1992](/source/1992_Monte_Carlo_Open) and [1995](/source/1995_Monte_Carlo_Open). It was also his 4th final after previously losing in [1990](/source/1990_Monte_Carlo_Open).[3]
