It was the 12th edition of the [Miami Masters](/source/Miami_Masters) and was part of the [Mercedes Super 9](/source/ATP_World_Tour_Masters_1000) of the [1996 ATP Tour](/source/1996_ATP_Tour) and of [Tier I](/source/WTA_Tier_I_tournaments) of the [1996 WTA Tour](/source/1996_WTA_Tour). Both the men's and women's events took place at the [Tennis Center at Crandon Park](/source/Tennis_Center_at_Crandon_Park) on [Key Biscayne](/source/Key_Biscayne), [Florida](/source/Florida) in the United States from March 22 through March 31, 1996.[1]
