The **1989 Dutch TT** was the ninth round of the [1989 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season](/source/1989_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season). It took place on the weekend of 22–24 June 1989 at the [TT Circuit Assen](/source/TT_Circuit_Assen) located in [Assen](/source/Assen), [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands).[4]

## 500 cc race report

[Wayne Gardner](/source/Wayne_Gardner) is back for the first time since the [Laguna](/source/1989_United_States_motorcycle_Grand_Prix) crash that broke his leg. [Kevin Schwantz](/source/Kevin_Schwantz) gets 5 poles in a row, with [Wayne Rainey](/source/Wayne_Rainey) second on the line. Green light and it's Schwantz, Rainey, [Pierfrancesco Chili](/source/Pierfrancesco_Chili) and [Eddie Lawson](/source/Eddie_Lawson) at the front.

Down the field, Gardner get past [Mick Doohan](/source/Mick_Doohan), while Schwantz begins to get a gap. With one lap to go, Schwantz’ [Suzuki](/source/Suzuki) dies, and Rainey cruises to the win, followed by Lawson and [Christian Sarron](/source/Christian_Sarron).
