Motor car race

The **1982 Swiss Grand Prix** was a [Formula One](/source/Formula_One) [motor race](/source/Motor_race) held at [Dijon-Prenois](/source/Dijon-Prenois) in France on 29 August 1982.[1] The race, contested over 80 laps, was the fourteenth race of the [1982 Formula One season](/source/1982_Formula_One_season) and was won by [Keke Rosberg](/source/Keke_Rosberg), driving a [Williams](/source/Williams_FW08)-[Ford](/source/Ford_Motor_Company). This was Rosberg's first win in a Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, though he had previously won a non-championship Formula One race, the [1978 BRDC International Trophy](/source/1978_BRDC_International_Trophy). [Alain Prost](/source/Alain_Prost) finished second in a [Renault](/source/Renault_RE30), having started from [pole position](/source/Pole_position), while [Niki Lauda](/source/Niki_Lauda) was third in a [McLaren](/source/McLaren_MP4%2F1)-[Ford](/source/Ford_Motor_Company). This was the only win of the season for eventual World Champion Rosberg. The chequered flag was shown after 81 laps when the organizers / flag stand missed the leading car on lap 80.[2]

This was the first World Championship [Swiss Grand Prix](/source/Swiss_Grand_Prix) since [1954](/source/1954_Swiss_Grand_Prix) (despite it not being held in [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland)), and the last running of the event to date. [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland) had banned motor racing after the [1955 Le Mans disaster](/source/1955_Le_Mans_disaster); as of 2021, the ban has been lifted for electric vehicles only.[3] [Patrick Tambay](/source/Patrick_Tambay), [Ferrari](/source/Scuderia_Ferrari)'s only entry after team leader [Didier Pironi](/source/Didier_Pironi)'s career-ending crash three weeks earlier, was unable to start due to a pinched nerve in his back.[4] This was the last of only three times the Ferrari team did not start a World Championship race in which they entered (see also [1950 French Grand Prix](/source/1950_French_Grand_Prix) and [1982 Belgian Grand Prix](/source/1982_Belgian_Grand_Prix)). Ferrari withdrew their entry so late that [Chico Serra](/source/Chico_Serra) (the fastest non-qualifier) was not allowed to start.[5]
