The **1982 German Open Championships** was a men's [tennis](/source/Tennis) tournament played on outdoor [clay courts](/source/Clay_court) at [Am Rothenbaum](/source/Am_Rothenbaum) in [Hamburg](/source/Hamburg), West Germany that was part of the [Super Series](/source/Grand_Prix_Super_Series) of the [1982 Grand Prix circuit](/source/1982_Grand_Prix_(tennis)). It was the 74th edition of the [event](/source/Grand_Prix_German_Open) and took place from 10 May until 16 May 1982. [José Higueras](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Higueras), who was seeded 16th, won the singles title and earned $40,000 first-prize money. He had been affected by [hepatitis](/source/Hepatitis) for over two years and it was his first singles title since the [1979 U.S. Pro Tennis Championships](/source/1979_U.S._Pro_Tennis_Championships). Higueras played with rackets lent to him by [Ivan Lendl](/source/Ivan_Lendl) instead of his own wooden rackets.[3]
