The **Eastern Zone** was one of the three regional zones of the [1981 Davis Cup](/source/1981_Davis_Cup).

6 teams entered the Eastern Zone in total. With the introduction of a new tiered format, the [previous year's semifinalists](/source/1980_Davis_Cup_Eastern_Zone) bypassed Zonal competition and qualified directly for the new 16-team [World Group](/source/1981_Davis_Cup_World_Group). The remaining teams would now compete for a place in the following year's World Group.[1][2][3]

[India](/source/India_Davis_Cup_team) defeated [Indonesia](/source/Indonesia_Davis_Cup_team) in the final and qualified for the [1982 World Group](/source/1982_Davis_Cup_World_Group).[4]
