The event was part of the [1979 Colgate-Palmolive Grand Prix](/source/1979_Colgate-Palmolive_Grand_Prix) and was played in [Nancy](/source/Nancy%2C_France) in [France](/source/France). It was the inaugural edition of the tournament and was held from 19 March through 25 March 1979. Fourth-seeded [Yannick Noah](/source/Yannick_Noah) won the singles title.[3]
