The **1978 New Zealand Open**, also known by its sponsored name **Benson & Hedges New Zealand Open**, was a men's professional [tennis](/source/Tennis) tournament held in [Auckland](/source/Auckland), [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand). It was a non-tour event, i.e. not part of the [1978 Grand Prix](/source/1978_Grand_Prix_(tennis)) circuit. It was the 11th edition of the [tournament](/source/ATP_Auckland_Open) and was played on outdoor hard courts and was held from 2 January through 8 January 1978. [Eliot Teltscher](/source/Eliot_Teltscher) won the singles title.[3]
