The **1934 PGA Championship** was the 17th [PGA Championship](/source/PGA_Championship), held July 24–29 at [Park Country Club](/source/The_Park_Country_Club) in [Williamsville, New York](/source/Williamsville%2C_New_York), a suburb northeast of [Buffalo](/source/Buffalo%2C_New_York). Then a [match play](/source/Match_play) championship, [Paul Runyan](/source/Paul_Runyan) won the first of his two PGA Championship titles, defeating [Craig Wood](/source/Craig_Wood_(golfer)) in 38 holes.[3][4][5]

Defending champion [Gene Sarazen](/source/Gene_Sarazen) lost 4 and 3 in the second round to [Al Watrous](/source/Al_Watrous).[6]

## Format

The [match play](/source/Match_play) format at the PGA Championship in 1934 called for 12 rounds (216 holes) in six days:[2]
