The **1927 PGA Championship** was the 10th [PGA Championship](/source/PGA_Championship), held from October 31 to November 5 in [Texas](/source/Texas) at [Cedar Crest Country Club](/source/Cedar_Crest_Park) in [Dallas](/source/Dallas). Then a [match play](/source/Match_play) championship, [Walter Hagen](/source/Walter_Hagen) defeated [Joe Turnesa](/source/Joe_Turnesa) 1 up in the finals to win his fourth consecutive PGA Championship,[3][4][5] his fifth and final overall, and the ninth of his eleven [major](/source/Men's_major_golf_championships) titles.

The victory ran Hagen's match record at the PGA Championship in the 1920s to 30–1 (.968), falling only to [Gene Sarazen](/source/Gene_Sarazen) in 38 holes in the [1923](/source/1923_PGA_Championship) finals. With his fourth consecutive title, his winning streak stood at twenty matches. Hagen, age 34, was also the medalist in the 36-hole qualifier on Monday at 141 (−1).[2]

The course, south of downtown Dallas, was designed by [A. W. Tillinghast](/source/A._W._Tillinghast) and opened in 1919. It hosted the [Dallas Open](/source/Dallas_Open_(1926)) less than two years earlier in January 1926, won by [Macdonald Smith](/source/Macdonald_Smith).[6][7] The country club closed in 1929 and the course was purchased by the City of Dallas in 1946 and it continues as a public facility.

At the time, this was the furthest west and south that a major championship had been held. The western limit had been [Illinois](/source/Illinois) for multiple majors, and the southernmost venues had been [Indiana](/source/Indiana) for the PGA Championship in [1924](/source/1924_PGA_Championship) and [Maryland](/source/Maryland) for the [U.S. Open](/source/U.S._Open_(golf)) in [1921](/source/1921_U.S._Open_(golf)). Two years later in [1929](/source/1929_PGA_Championship), the PGA Championship was played in [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), [California](/source/California).
