# 18 Tauri

**18 Tauri** is a single[1] [star](/source/Star) in the [zodiac](/source/Zodiac) [constellation](/source/Constellation) of [Taurus](/source/Taurus_(constellation)), located 452 [light years](/source/Light_year) away from the Sun. It is visible to the naked eye as a faint, blue-white hued star with an [apparent visual magnitude](/source/Apparent_visual_magnitude) of 5.66.[2] The star is moving further from the Earth with a heliocentric [radial velocity](/source/Radial_velocity) of +4.8 km/s.[3] It is a member of the [Pleiades](/source/Pleiades)[4] [open cluster](/source/Open_cluster), which is positioned near the [ecliptic](/source/Ecliptic) and thus is subject to [lunar occultations](/source/Lunar_occultation).[5]

This is a [B-type main-sequence star](/source/B-type_main-sequence_star) with a [stellar classification](/source/Stellar_classification) of B8 V,[6] and is about halfway through its [main sequence](/source/Main_sequence) lifetime.[7] It displays an [infrared excess](/source/Infrared_excess), suggesting the presence of an orbiting debris disk with a [black body](/source/Black_body) temperature of 75 K at a separation of 137.8 AU from the host star.[8] The star has 3.34[7] times the [mass of the Sun](/source/Mass_of_the_Sun) and 2.89[8] times the [Sun's radius](/source/Sun's_radius). It is radiating 160[7] times the [Sun's luminosity](/source/Sun's_luminosity) from its [photosphere](/source/Photosphere) at an [effective temperature](/source/Effective_temperature) of 13,748 K.[9] 18 Tauri has a high rate of spin, showing a [projected rotational velocity](/source/Projected_rotational_velocity) of 212 km/s.[7]
