The '''18 September Square''' ([Dutch](/source/Dutch_language): ''18 Septemberplein'') is a [square](/source/Town_square) in the Dutch city of [Eindhoven](/source/Eindhoven). It is the connection between [Eindhoven Centraal railway station](/source/Eindhoven_Centraal_railway_station) and the city's shopping center.

== Name ==
The square owes its name to the [liberation of Eindhoven](/source/liberation_of_Eindhoven) on September 18, 1944, during [Operation Market Garden](/source/Operation_Market_Garden). On this date, allied armies entered Eindhoven, liberating one of the first cities in the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands) from [German occupation](/source/German-occupied_Europe). From the north came the [United States Army](/source/United_States_Army) and from the south came the [British Army](/source/British_Army); the [British Second Army](/source/Second_Army_(United_Kingdom)), including the [Irish Guards](/source/Irish_Guards). == Characteristics ==
The square is characterized by the combination of space, luxurious paving, a special design of the entrances to the [bicycle](/source/bicycle) basement, water fountains, trees, art, benches and a dynamic play of lights. The free bicycle basement the Tube is accessible by [moving walkway](/source/moving_walkway)s and can accommodate about 1,250 [bicycle](/source/bicycle)s and 60 [moped](/source/moped)s.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.amateurfilmplatform.nl/films/18-septemberplein-het-ontstaan-van-een-markant-plein|title=18 septemberplein. In the middle at the edge of the square is the indoor shopping center [Piazza Center](/source/Piazza_Center).
