'''16 Lyncis''' is a [star](/source/star) in the [constellation](/source/constellation) [Lynx](/source/Lynx_(constellation)). It is positioned next to the western constellation border with [Auriga](/source/Auriga_(constellation)), and is also known as '''Psi10 Aurigae''', which is [Latinized](/source/Romanization_of_Greek) from ψ10 Aurigae. The star has a white hue and is visible to the naked eye with an [apparent visual magnitude](/source/apparent_visual_magnitude) of 4.90.<ref name=hr/> The distance to this object is approximately 241<ref name="van Leeuwen 2007"/> [light-year](/source/light-year)s based on [parallax](/source/stellar_parallax), but it is drifting closer to the [Sun](/source/Sun) with a [radial velocity](/source/radial_velocity) of −12 km/s.<ref name="Gontcharov 2006"/> It has an [absolute magnitude](/source/absolute_magnitude) of 0.56.<ref name=Anderson2012/>

This object is a solitary<ref name=Eggleton2008/> [A-type main-sequence star](/source/A-type_main-sequence_star) with a [stellar classification](/source/stellar_classification) of A0Vn,<ref name=abt/> a star that is currently fusing its core [hydrogen](/source/hydrogen). The 'n' suffix indicates "nebulous" [absorption line](/source/absorption_line)s due to rapid rotation. It is around 181 million years old with a [projected rotational velocity](/source/projected_rotational_velocity) of 229 km/s.<ref name=David2015/> This spin rate is giving the star an [oblate shape](/source/oblate_shape) with an [equatorial bulge](/source/equatorial_bulge) that is an estimated 10% larger than the polar radius.<ref name=belle2012/> 16 Lyncis has 2.38<ref name=David2015/> times the [mass of the Sun](/source/mass_of_the_Sun) and is radiating 56<ref name=Anderson2012/> times the [Sun's luminosity](/source/Sun's_luminosity) from its [photosphere](/source/photosphere) at an [effective temperature](/source/effective_temperature) of {{val|10395|fmt=commas|ul=K}}.<ref name=David2015/>

16 Lyncis is suspected of being slightly [variable](/source/Variable_star), but this has not been confirmed.<ref name="AAVSO"/> It was noted when 16 Lyncis was used as a comparison star for observing another variable, the peculiar [HD 51418](/source/HD_51418) (NY Aurigae).<ref name=gulliver/>
