'''10988 Feinstein''' ([provisional designation](/source/Minor_planet_provisional_designation) '''{{mp|1968 OL}}''') is a stony Phocaea [asteroid](/source/asteroid) from the inner regions of the [asteroid belt](/source/asteroid_belt). Approximately 3.4 kilometers in diameter, it was discovered on 28 July 1968 by astronomers at the [Félix Aguilar Observatory](/source/F%C3%A9lix_Aguilar_Observatory) in El Leoncito, [Argentina](/source/Argentina). The asteroid was named after Argentine astronomer [Alejandro Feinstein](/source/Alejandro_Feinstein) in 2008.<ref name="MPC-object" />

== Orbit and classification ==
Dynamically, Feinstein is a member of the [Phocaea family](/source/Phocaea_family) ({{small|[701](/source/FIN_tbl)}}),<ref name="lcdb" /> a large inner-belt [asteroid family](/source/asteroid_family) of stony composition. However, no membership to any known family could be found when using the [Hierarchical Clustering Method](/source/Hierarchical_Clustering_Method_(asteroids)).<ref name="AstDys-object" />

Feinstein orbits the Sun in the [inner](/source/Kirkwood_gap) main-belt at a distance of 1.7–2.9 [AU](/source/Astronomical_unit) once every 3 years and 5 months (1,257 days). Its orbit has an [eccentricity](/source/orbital_eccentricity) of 0.26 and an [inclination](/source/orbital_inclination) of 24[°](/source/Degree_(angle)) with respect to the [ecliptic](/source/ecliptic).<ref name="jpldata" /> The body's [observation arc](/source/observation_arc) begins at El Leoncito with its official discovery observation in 1968.<ref name="MPC-object" />

== Physical characteristics ==
Feinstein has been characterized as a common stony [S-type asteroid](/source/S-type_asteroid) by [PanSTARRS](/source/PanSTARRS) photometric survey,<ref name="Veres-2015" /> which agrees with the family's overall [spectral type](/source/Asteroid_spectral_type).<ref name="Nesvorny-2014" />{{rp|23}}

=== Rotation period ===
In May 2016, a rotational [lightcurve](/source/lightcurve) of Feinstein was obtained from photometric observations by Czech astronomer [Petr Pravec](/source/Petr_Pravec) at [Ondřejov Observatory](/source/Ond%C5%99ejov_Observatory). Lightcurve analysis gave a short [rotation period](/source/rotation_period) of 2.6723 hours with a brightness amplitude of 0.11 [magnitude](/source/Magnitude_(astronomy)) ({{small|[U=3-](/source/LCDB_quality_code)}}).{{efn|name=lcdb-Pravec-2016}}

=== Diameter and albedo ===
The ''Collaborative Asteroid Lightcurve Link'' assumes an [albedo](/source/Astronomical_albedo) of 0.23 – derived from [25 Phocaea](/source/25%26nbsp%3BPhocaea), the Phocaea family's largest member and namesake – and calculates a mean-diameter of 3.43 kilometers based on an [absolute magnitude](/source/absolute_magnitude) of 14.54.<ref name="lcdb" />

== Naming ==
This [minor planet](/source/minor_planet) was named after Argentinian astronomer [Alejandro Feinstein](/source/Alejandro_Feinstein) (born 1928) at [La Plata Astronomical Observatory](/source/La_Plata_Astronomical_Observatory) in La Plata, and one of the co-founders of the Argentinian Astronomical Association ({{langx|es|Asociación Argentina de Astronomía}}).<ref name="MPC-object" /> The official naming citation was published by the [Minor Planet Center](/source/Minor_Planet_Center) on 20 May 2008 ({{small|[M.P.C.](/source/Minor_Planet_Circulars) 62929}}).<ref name="MPC-Circulars-Archive" />
